Networks representing microbial communities from soil habitat (a), from truffle habitat (b), and from combined soil and truffle habitats (c). Each node represents a species, and node color is related to the habitat the species belongs to (blue for soil habitat and yellow for truffle one). Edges (lines) between nodes represent a significant correlation between the abundances of the species connected by. Edge width is proportional to the significance of correlation between species. Networks are plotted by organic layout in Cytoscape. d Species identified in the truffle habitat have a higher connectivity (measured by node degree centrality) than species identified in the soil habitat (respectively yellow and blue boxplots). The network derived from abundances combined from species identified in soil and truffle habitats has a connectivity lower respect the only truffle component and higher respect the only soil component (striped boxplot)
