Growth potential of pathogens in borde (A), grawa (B), and tej (C) beverages. The growth potential of E. coli, S. typhimurium, S. aureus, L. monocytogenes, and C. albicans in the three beverages was assessed within 24 h by drawing samples at an interval of 6 h. The growth or no growth of these pathogens was determined having cultured the drawn samples on the pathogens’ respective media, incubated at 37 °C, and counted viable cells which latter expressed in Log CFU/ml. The mean ± standard is presented and the statistical analysis was determined using one-way ANOVA with Tukey post hoc test. Different letters in superscript along a column indicate presence of significant difference (p < 0.05), while the same letters indicate absence of significant difference (p > 0.05)
