Effect of Ca(OH)2 concentration on the subsequent susceptibility of the lignocellulosic fibers to cellulase degradation (hydrolysis). Lignocellulosic fibers (6% (w/v)) were pretreated with the indicated concentration of Ca(OH)2 at 121°C, 15 lb/in2 for 30 min, and then hydrolyzed by cellulase GC 220 (62 U/g) at 40°C, pH 6 for 72 h. The data are displayed as the mean ± 1 SD, and are derived from triplicate experiments
